My Review
Just when it seemed like the tension and misunderstanding between Aki and his boss, Sawatari, could spiral into the end of their connection, a new character steps in and talks some sense into the boss. By pointing outhis jealousy, he helps him question and realize how he really feels about Aki. It finally provides more insight into the boss as well. After this realization he becomes much more flirty and gentle with Aki. His sometimes distant demeanor takes a backseat as he opens up more, showing a softer, more affectionate side!
Since volume one ended with a confession from Ritsu, I was scared the love triangle would be dragged out. Fortunately, this was resolved quite fast. We get to see proper adult communication and rejection! It’s refreshing to see characters act their age, communicate their feelings, and not drag things out unnecessarily for the sake of drama.
While the romance between Aki and the boss is the main plot, we also get a glimpse into the world of the series—specifically, the mob/yakuza lifestyle. Seeing how light-hearted volume one was and everything up till now- I wasn't expecting some mild violence and.. actual mob activities. Fushimi, who is obsessed with Sawatari, kidnaps Aki (again) just to get a reaction out of him. It's nothing too graphic or dramatic, since what happened was mainly for the sake of developing Aki's and Sawatari's relationship. This volume also gives more insight in events that took place in the past, the backstory is interesting and adds more depth.
I was so excited to finally continue this series- and like volume one, it did not disappoint! All in all, Volume 2 of Mobsters in Love offers a perfect blend of the beginning of a romance, character growth, and a nice story pacing. I’m curious to see where the series goes from here and I can’t wait to see how their relationship will develop in the final volume, seeing how this volume ends on a very positive note.
